The Research to Remember Digital Library is an extension of Madison Middle School's media center. In addition to offering
traditional media such as books and encyclopedias, the library also offers information through digital means.
The Research to Remember Digital Library includes civil rights and Holocaust collections.
The civil rights collection includes media to educate middle school students about Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks,
Malcolm X, Booker T. Washington, W.E.B. Du Bois, the Little Rock Nine, John F. Kennedy, Cesar Chavez, Medgar Evers, and Jackie
Robinson.
The Holocaust collection includes media about Elie Wiesel, Anne Frank, Miep Gies, Raoul Gustav Wallenberg, Oskar Schindler,
Irena Sendler, Simon Wiesenthal, and the Zegota.
Evaluation Criteria:
The following crieria will be followed when evaluating sources to be added or removed from the collections:
1. Relevance to actual or potential needs of Madison Middle School students and educators.
Media specialist maintains close ties with teachers and students to remain aware of needs required by the Trumbull, CT middle
school curriculum. Additionally, media specialsit keeps records of media, project requests, and lessons given to all students.
It is imperative that the media specialsit be an active member of the school community to gauge the needs of the population.
2. Content and Quality
Media specialist must recognize the diverse needs of educators and sixth to eighth graders at Madison Middle School. The media
specialist must gauge appropriateness of media content for audience but must also allow for a wide range of diverse offerings.
The media specialist must also review quality of media to confirm academic worth.
Factors to determine quality will be weighed collectively: its sponsorship, scholarship, level of creativity, lasting
value, author, bibliographic information, artwork, evidence of editing and quality of revision. None of these factors will
be the one determinant of value, but rather all factors will be reviewed to determine if they enhance or detract from the
source.
3. Price
The value of any media cannot be measured by its price. However, the media specialist must determine the needs of the students
and educators and also order and revise digital material according to school distrcit budget.
4. Currency and Timeliness
Materials will be reviewed according to relevance and accurateness. Websites will be checked for revisions and active links.
5. Language
The language of the primary users and secondary users of each title under review must be given consideration. The needs of
the foreign language department must be considered along with the diverse population of Trumbull, CT.
